The Delhi Police arrested four individuals connected to the Shahzad Bhatti network who were reportedly targeting religious places and police establishments in the national capital for terror activities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi stated that one of the accused was apprehended in Delhi while conducting reconnaissance of sensitive locations, including religious places and police checkpoints (nakas). “He was also promised weapons for carrying out a firing incident in Delhi,” Tripathi said.
The arrests resulted from a coordinated operation by the Special Cell (New Delhi Range), which captured three suspects in Punjab bordering areas and one in Delhi. The three Punjab-based operatives were allegedly receiving narcotics and arms consignments regularly from Pakistan-based handlers linked to the Shahzad Bhatti network.
“A team of Special Cell in the New Delhi range has arrested four accused–three from Punjab and one from Delhi–in a major crackdown against the Shahzad Bhatti network. Three of these accused were arrested from the bordering areas of Punjab, where they were receiving narco and arms consignments regularly from their Pakistan-based handlers. These handlers were found to be linked with the Shahzad Bhatti network,” Tripathi added.
Further investigation is ongoing to identify additional local collaborators and potential targets planned by the network.
Earlier, the Special Cell arrested the four men—Shubdeep Singh (23), Gurjant Singh (22), Sajan Singh (28), and Gaganpreet (24)—on suspicion of planning a terror attack in Delhi under the guidance of Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti. Three individuals were arrested in Punjab, and one in Delhi.
Police recovered two foreign-made pistols, nine live cartridges, and five mobile phones from the accused.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Inspectors Satish Rana and Ashok, under Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Kumar Tyagi, conducted raids in Delhi and Punjab. The first arrest occurred in Amritsar, where Shubdeep Singh was caught with a pistol, cartridges, and phones. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Gurjant Singh and Sajan Singh in Punjab. Gaganpreet was arrested in Delhi on April 24.
During questioning, the accused revealed contacts with Pakistani handlers using foreign phone numbers to avoid detection. They allegedly received arms and narcotics via drones across the border. Gaganpreet reportedly carried out reconnaissance of police stations and religious sites in Delhi and was assigned to execute a firing attack.
