New Delhi: Heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, bringing relief from the hot and humid conditions that have prevailed in the region for weeks now. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi and said that light showers, cloudy skies and strong winds would continue in the coming days in the entire region.
Rains hit several parts of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. Strong winds and light showers also brought down temperatures in the region, bringing relief to the people. The IMD predicted more rains in the coming days.
The IMD said that Delhi-NCR would receive light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms between July 1 to July 6, 2026. This would mean that temperatures would come down considerably in the region. The weather office said that the southwest monsoon has not yet reached the national capital, but has entered Uttar Pradesh. It is now moving closer to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan as well, reported the Times of India.
Parts of Delhi saw rains on Tuesday and cool weather continued on Wednesday as well. The IMD declared that monsoon rains have hit Delhi-NCR.
On Wednesday the national capital recorded high temperatures. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum was 31.2 degrees Celsius. These temperatures were recorded at the Safdarjung weather station, which is considered to be Delhi base weather station. The temperature at the Ridge weather station was 41.5 degrees Celsius, while at Ayanagar it was 40.1 degrees Celsius.
The IMD said that the maximum temperature had fallen by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours. Westerly and northwesterly winds blowing at a speed of 15 to 20 kmph has helped improve weather conditions.
Temperatures in the city are expected to drop further, as more rains are likely to hit the national capital in the coming days.
