US President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction on Wednesday, July 1, with the trajectory of talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic, stating that recent bilateral negotiations in Qatar have been constructive and that the process of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear disarmament is progressing “nicely.”
Speaking to reporters ahead of a trip, Trump remarked, “The process of Iran’s nuclear disarmament is progressing nicely. They have had very good meetings, and we will see what happens.”
Referencing recent US strikes against targets in Iran, he added: “As you know, we hit them very hard for three nights, but now our relationship is going very well. The nuclear disarmament process is underway, and everything is moving forward nicely.”
The US President reiterated his firm stance that the Islamic Republic must never acquire nuclear weapons, warning that Tehran obtaining such weaponry could negatively impact America’s economic achievements and its broader agenda.
Turning to global oil markets, Trump noted that the price of crude oil has dropped to $68 per barrel. He emphasized that this price is even lower than it was when the United States launched its military strike against Iran, an operation aimed at preventing the Islamic Republic from attaining a nuclear weapon.
Trump’s remarks came just hours after reports surfaced regarding indirect technical negotiations between Iran and the US in Doha, the capital of Qatar. According to these reports, the talks are being mediated by Qatar and Pakistan within the operational framework of the recent memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington.
It was also reported that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the senior US negotiators, arrived in Qatar on Monday and met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday, though they will not be participating in Wednesday’s technical sessions.
