The Boston Celtics have traded guard Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia Sixers for forward Paul George and several draft picks, sources tell ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania.
The trade comes after Brown’s name appeared several times in significant trade talks between the Celtics and other NBA teams.
Brown, a five-time NBA All-Star, was drafted by the Celtics in 2016 and won Finals MVP in 2024 with the team, bringing Boston its 18th NBA Championship.

Along with Paul George, the Celtics received two first-round picks and two second-round picks.
Brown, 29, averaged 20 points in his 10-year stint with the Celtics. Brown made the All-NBA 2nd-team two times in his career, and won the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award during the Celtics’ successful NBA Finals run in 2024.
George, 36, joins the Celtics after spending two seasons with the Sixers. George averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in his 16-year career, after he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 2010.
Brown will join the Sixers, a Celtics division rival, who ousted Boston from the playoffs after coming back from down 3-1 in the first round of the postseason.
In June, Brown’s name was mentioned in a potential trade offer to Milwaukee for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The offer for the Bucks’ star, which was reportedly Brown and a pair of first-round draft picks, wasn’t enough to beat Miami’s offer of four first-round picks, a second-round pick and multiple players, including the 2022 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Tyler Herro.
Following the first round of the NBA draft on Tuesday, Boston president of basketball operations Brad Stevens declined to say how close the team got to executing a trade for Brown. But he said he still views Brown as part of the Celtics’ future. It’s why the team sat down with Brown recently, who is currently overseas.
“Jaylen Brown is a big part of us. I don’t want to predict the future. I look at it as this is our team,” Stevens said.
The Brown-George trade wasn’t the only move the Celtics made Wednesday as they also continued to overhaul the team’s roster by adding center Mitchell Robinson and veteran guard Mike Conley, Jr.
