Cam Neely addresses whether or not the Bruins need to add to their roster to be real contenders.
NHL free agency starts at noon ET on Wednesday, giving the Boston Bruins another avenue to improve their roster and keep pace in a super competitive Atlantic Division.
The Bruins are no strangers to making a splash in free agency.
Two years ago, the Bruins spent a combined $84.25 million on center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Nikita Zadorov on July 1. Last year, the B’s mostly signed a bunch of bottom-six forwards including Tanner Jeannot, Sean Kuraly and Michael Eyssimont.
Free agency is not the best place to add premium talent to a roster. The draft and trade market are by far the best areas to make significant upgrades. This year is no different. The 2026 class of unrestricted free agents is pretty weak. But there are still some good players available, and the Bruins have plenty of roster needs to address.
