TCN launches AI-powered answering machine detection for contact centers – TechBuzz News

ST. GEORGE, Utah — July 1, 2026
TCN has launched SmartAMD, an AI-powered answering machine detection and call classification tool built into its Operator cloud contact center platform.
The software is designed to identify whether an outbound call reaches a live person, voicemail, or a mobile call-screening system, including Apple’s iOS Call Screening, Google Pixel Call Screen, and carrier-based screening services. The goal is to improve right-party contacts while reducing time agents spend waiting through voicemail greetings and screening prompts.
Unlike traditional answering machine detection systems that rely on a single detection model, SmartAMD uses multiple machine learning models to classify call outcomes and determine how each call should be handled, whether by connecting an agent, leaving a message, or ending the call.
According to TCN, the platform also provides detailed call classification data and continuously retrains its AI models to adapt to changing carrier filtering and voicemail technologies.
The company said a recent enterprise deployment involving more than 1.6 million outbound calls produced a 13.3% increase in agent utilization, improved right-party contact rates, and generated an 8.8-to-1 return on investment for the customer. Those performance figures were provided by TCN.
Based in St. George, Utah, TCN is a provider of cloud-based contact center software serving organizations in industries including collections, healthcare, financial services, government and business process outsourcing. Its Operator platform combines voice, messaging and self-service tools, with AI capabilities such as SmartAMD integrated directly into the platform. Because SmartAMD is built into Operator, customers can deploy it with minimal IT involvement and without adding separate vendors or data pipelines.
The company said SmartAMD is available immediately to Operator users.
