Des Moines police will continue using license-plate recognition software after the City Council approved a five-year, $157,000 contract with Motorola Solutions.
The funding for the software will come from the police department’s general operating budget.
The previous software agreement expired Tuesday. Police told city staff the data collected is increasingly valuable to investigations and missing persons cases.
