The Trumbull Police Department assisted the Bridgeport Police Department and Connecticut State Police Monday evening 6/29/2026, in the search for individuals suspected of being involved in a shooting investigation in Bridgeport.
The investigation began after Bridgeport officers located a stolen vehicle believed to be connected to the incident. Officers pursued the vehicle onto Route 8 into Trumbull, where the occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot in the area of Booth Hill Road.
Trumbull officers, along with assisting agencies, immediately established a perimeter and utilized all available resources to assist with the search, including K-9 units, a drone, and an aircraft. Two individuals were located and apprehended shortly after the search began and were turned over to Bridgeport Police.
Because there were conflicting reports regarding the number of individuals who may have exited the vehicle and fled, officers continued the search for an extended period to ensure every available resource was utilized. Over the course of approximately 14 hours, the Trumbull Police Department and assisting agencies conducted an extensive search of the area and we continue to actively investigate this case with agencies that we are assisting.
At this time, we cannot confirm how many individuals may have fled from the vehicle. It is possible that fewer individuals were involved, that others left the area prior to the perimeter being established, or that they were assisted in leaving the area. At this time, investigators do not have a confirmed description of any additional individuals who may have fled and, therefore, we do not have specific suspect information to provide to the public.
While this was a serious incident, there is currently no information indicating an ongoing threat to the Trumbull community. Residents should continue their normal daily activities, remain aware of their surroundings, and immediately report any suspicious activity by contacting the Trumbull Police Department.
Anyone in the Booth Hill Road, Columbine Road, or surrounding neighborhoods who may have information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Trumbull Police Department.
The Trumbull Police Department appreciates the cooperation and patience of our residents and thanks the members of all assisting agencies who worked together throughout this incident.
A former Madison Middle School teacher was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, and charged with Risk of Injury to a Child, after investigation found that he had exchanged inappropriate text messages with a 13-year-old male student. Ryan LaSella, age 34, of Milford, CT, turned himself in at the Trumbull Police Department when he was notified of an active warrant for his arrest.
The arrest resulted from an investigation that began in March of 2026, when the Trumbull Police School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified of the complaint by Trumbull School administrators. The complaint alleges that LaSella had sent inappropriate text messages to a 13-year-old male student between July 2025 and March 2026.
LaSella was charged with Risk of Injury to a Child, CGS 53-21-(a)(a), and was released on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court, 172 Golden Hill Street in Bridgeport on June 30, 2026. School officials indicated that he resigned from his teaching position with the Trumbull school system on April 2, 2026, shortly after the complaint was originally received.
