The 2026 FIFA men’s World Cup knockout stage delivered another day of drama Monday as Paraguay upset Germany on penalties, Morocco advanced past the Netherlands and Brazil rallied late to eliminate Japan. Tuesday’s slate now shifts attention to France, Mexico and Norway as the race to the Round of 16 continues.
Monday brought the biggest upset of the knockout stage so far when Paraguay knocked out Germany on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The loss marked an early exit for one of the tournament favorites.
Morocco also advanced in dramatic fashion, defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout after the teams finished level at 1-1, keeping their impressive World Cup run alive.
Brazil just squeaked out 2-1 victory over Japan. Japan grabbed an early lead before Brazil equalized and found a stoppage-time winner to advance.
Now attention shifts to Tuesday’s Round of 32 action, with France, Mexico and Norway among the teams looking to secure a place in the Round of 16.
Three Round of 32 matches are scheduled for Tuesday, June 30:
Canada, Paraguay, Morocco and Brazil have already advanced to the Round of 16.
With France and Mexico in action Tuesday and the United States scheduled to face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday night, the knockout stage is entering one of the most anticipated stretches of the tournament.
