New Delhi: Industry leaders have welcomed the Delhi government’s newly approved Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, describing it as a major step towards accelerating electric mobility through incentives, infrastructure expansion and a phased transition away from conventional fuel vehicles.
The policy, which comes into effect from July 1, provides 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric cars priced up to Rs 30 lakh and introduces subsidies for electric two-wheelers. It also outlines a phased shift towards EV-only registrations in selected vehicle categories over the coming years.
Reacting to the announcement, Madhumita Agrawal, Founder and CEO of Oben Electric, said the policy provides a clear framework to support wider EV adoption.
“Delhi’s EV Policy 2.0 is a progressive policy that addresses the key enablers required to accelerate EV adoption at scale. By combining a clear roadmap for the transition of the two-wheeler segment with continued consumer incentives, charging infrastructure expansion and long-term ecosystem investments, the policy provides the clarity and confidence needed for both consumers and the industry to accelerate the shift towards electric mobility.”
She highlighted the policy’s emphasis on two-wheelers and their role in expanding electric mobility.
“The policy’s focus on two-wheelers is particularly significant. Motorcycles form the backbone of personal mobility and represent the largest opportunity to accelerate electrification at scale. As cities like Delhi advance their clean mobility ambitions, expanding the adoption of electric motorcycles will be critical to delivering meaningful environmental impact and making electric mobility accessible to a much larger base of riders. This also places greater responsibility on manufacturers to build electric motorcycles that can truly replace conventional motorcycles on performance, reliability, safety and ownership experience,” she stated.
Commenting on the broader impact of policy support, Agrawal said, “As the EV ecosystem continues to evolve, a forward-looking policy framework will be instrumental in driving long-term investments, accelerating innovation, and strengthening India’s position as a global leader for EVs.”
Kunal Arya, Co-founder and Managing Director of Zelio E Mobility, also welcomed the policy and said it creates a practical foundation for faster EV adoption.
“Delhi’s EV Policy 2026 is a decisive step toward making electric mobility mainstream, accessible, and infrastructure-backed. The combination of demand incentives including subsidies of up to ₹30,000 for two-wheeler buyers in the first year along with a clear ICE phase-out timeline and a strong push for charging infrastructure, creates a practical ecosystem for accelerated EV adoption. What stands out is the policy’s balanced approach: driving consumer demand while addressing the charging accessibility barrier head-on. For the EV industry, this sends a clear signal that policy is moving beyond intent to execution.”
He added that supportive policy frameworks could strengthen adoption across key mobility segments.
“At Zelio E-Mobility, we believe such progressive frameworks will significantly accelerate EV penetration, especially in the two-wheeler and intra-city last-mile mobility segments, where adoption delivers immediate environmental and economic impact. Delhi is setting a benchmark that other urban centres will closely watch,” he said.
