Portillo’s on Monday announced the launch of the Char’diniera Dog: a char-grilled Vienna Beef hot dog infused with giardiniera and provolone, as part of what it’s referring to as “Hot Dog Season.”
“The Char’diniera Dog is our love letter to everything that makes Chicago food culture so special, the heat of giardiniera, the richness of provolone, and that signature snap you only get from a Vienna Beef hot dog…,” Portillo’s said in a news release, in part.
The limited-time item debuts on menus starting Tuesday.

The Char’diniera Dog can be ordered in one of two ways: Chicago-style with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, celery salt, sport peppers and pickle on a steamed poppy seed bun – or Maxwell style with mustard and grilled onions.
It joins the chain’s hot dog lineup alongside the Chicago-style hot dog and the chili cheese hot dog.
As part of its self-proclaimed “Hot Dog Season,” Portillo’s said every dog will get its moment.
“The Char’diniera Dog is the headline act but Hot Dog Season is a celebration of everything that has made us a Chicago staple for over 60 years,” it stated.
Portillo’s teased the launch in a social media post last week, saying “something exciting” is coming.
“And the season is about to get a whole lot hotter,” it added in its post.
