PETROL has dropped below 150p a litre for the first time since the start of the Iran war in one part of the UK — and other regions are hot on its heels.
Northern Ireland is leading the way with an average of just 146.8p a litre in the week ending June 28, making it the only region to break through that key barrier since before the Iran conflict sent fuel markets into turmoil.

Yorkshire and Humber (150.5p) and the North East (150.6p) are now close to joining it, and across the UK as a whole petrol has already tumbled to 152.1p a litre on average, according to The AA.
If prices keep falling at the current rate, the national average could crack 150p by the end of this week – something last seen on March 27.
Diesel drivers are also getting welcome relief.
Prices have been falling at twice the speed of petrol over the past fortnight, and seven regions now average below 170p a litre.

“For now, UK drivers will be happy with petrol prices that have fallen more than 7.5p since the end of May,” he said.

He added: “But road fuel is still way above the pre-Covid records of 142.5p a litre for petrol and 147.9p for diesel, set in April 2012, and the 5p fuel duty cut (6p with VAT) continues to make the current cost of filling a typical fuel tank £3.30 better off than it might otherwise be.”
