Apple has launched a fierce legal counteroffensive against Indian antitrust regulators, accusing investigators of “copy-pasting” allegations from its commercial rivals instead of conducting an independent probe.
Apple urged the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to completely quash the investigation’s findings. The backlash follows a private 2024 CCI report concluding that Apple engaged in “abusive conduct” by forcing developers to use its proprietary iOS payment systems, News.Az reports, citing Reuters.
Apple strongly rejected the findings, drawing up comparative tables to argue that the CCI’s Director General blindly parroted verbatim complaints from major opponents like Tinder-owner Match Group, PhonePe, and Paytm. The tech giant also alleged that Indian investigators lazily duplicated graphics from a 2024 European Union antitrust ruling against Apple, ignoring India’s unique market conditions.

Arguing that it holds a “minuscule” share of under 6% in India’s smartphone market, Apple warned that forced structural changes to its App Store would damage its business model and jeopardize future digital investments in the country.
The high-stakes dispute comes at a sensitive time. Under India’s strict antitrust laws, Apple could face devastating fines of up to 10% of its global turnover. While the CCI has previously accused Apple of intentionally stalling the two-year case, Apple contends it was never granted a single opportunity to provide oral evidence.
The watchdog is scheduled to hold a decisive, closed-door hearing with all involved parties on July 21.
