The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly incident in St. Lucie County.
On Sunday, June 28, FHP responded at 10:47 a.m. to a reported fatality on the 100 block of Southeast El Sito Court in Port St. Lucie.
A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol said a 2016 Lincoln MKX sports utility vehicle was parked in a residential driveway.

An initial investigation revealed that a 78-year-old woman from Port St. Lucie was standing outside the SUV between the open driver’s door and the left side of the vehicle.
Her 59-year-old son from Port St. Lucie was seated in the right front seat.
According to FHP, the son started the engine of the SUV by reaching over the center console with his left hand to depress the brake pedal and used his right hand to push the start button.
For an unknown reason that is being investigated, the vehicle began to roll backwards in the driveway.
The open driver’s door knocked the woman to the ground. The woman was transported to HCA Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce where she was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m.
A St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson referred WPBF 25 News to the Florida Highway Patrol as FHP is the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
WPBF 25 News also contacted the Port St. Lucie Police Department for additional information and is awaiting a response.
