Flooding leads to multiple road closures in south-central Kansas, Turnpike lanes back open in Sumner County – KWCH

Sumner County, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: Interstate 35, the Kansas Turnpike, reopened in Sumner County after flooding shut down northbound lanes.
Remaining in Sumner County, K-55, near Belle Plaine, is still closed due to flooding.
Throughout south-central Kansas, we’re hearing reports of flooded roads. First responders remind you to never try driving through a flooded or barricaded road.
In Wichita, there are reports of stalled vehicles in several areas, a problem that impacted drivers throughout the city late Thursday night.
Multiple roads are closed Friday morning as heavy rain and thunderstorms have prompted flooding in several communities in south-central Kansas.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, northbound lanes of I-35 are closed between mile markers 19 and 29 due to water over the road. Drivers are being detoured at Wellington on U.S. 160, where they will go north on U.S. 77, then take K-15 to reenter I-35 in Wichita.
U.S. 81 is also closed north of Wellington, along with K-55 east of Belle Plaine.
