GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – More students are looking for a faster path into the workforce, and educators say that’s pushing interest toward technical colleges.
Greenville Technical College is hosting an application day on Wednesday to help prospective students apply and learn about programs tied to local jobs. The school says it partners with area manufacturing companies and offers internship-style training that can lead to full-time work after graduation.
State lawmakers have increased attention and funding for technical education, as more families question whether a four-year degree is the best route. Support includes the SC WINS Scholarship, which can provide up to $5,000 for students entering high-demand fields to help cover tuition, fees and some materials. Legislators have also prioritized dual enrollment and early college programs that allow students to earn college credit while in high school, helping some students finish sooner and enter the workforce faster.
Greenville Tech’s application day runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff will be available to guide applicants through the process, and no advance sign-up is required. The event is at the Student Success Center on the Barton Campus, off Pleasantburg Drive.
