RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — American actor Giancarlo Esposito, best known for portraying Gus Fring in the television series Breaking Bad, has embraced Islam during a stay in Saudi Arabia, according to local media reports.
Saudi Gazette reported that General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Al-Sheikh announced the actor’s conversion, saying Esposito recited the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, and participated in prayers with members of a production team at a mosque.
According to Al-Sheikh, the actor’s decision came after positive experiences during his time in the kingdom and interactions with Muslims while working on a film project.
He said Esposito spoke warmly about the sense of community and hospitality he encountered during the production.
A video circulated on social media reportedly showed the actor praying alongside colleagues inside a mosque during filming.
Esposito has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning several decades in film and television. In addition to Breaking Bad, he is widely recognized for his roles in Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian, and numerous other productions.
His portrayal of Gus Fring earned international acclaim and multiple award nominations, establishing him as one of television’s most recognizable actors.
According to the report, Esposito is currently involved in the production of Seven Dogs, one of several major projects being developed as Saudi Arabia continues efforts to expand its entertainment and film industry and attract international talent.
