Strong to severe storms today – WAAY 31 News

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible throughout the day. The SPC has placed the entire Tennessee Valley under a Level 2 of 5 (Slight Risk) for severe weather. The main threats will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall, with a low-end threat for small hail and a brief spin-up tornado.
Warm and muggy conditions are expected this morning, with temperatures in the upper 70s. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible early in the day, but rain and storm chances will increase around lunchtime and continue into the evening hours. Some storms could become severe. High temperatures will only reach the lower 80s.
Daily rain chances will remain in the forecast through the rest of the workweek, with below-average temperatures holding in the mid-80s.
By the weekend, temperatures will finally warm to near seasonal averages, around 90 degrees. These hotter conditions are expected to continue into next week.
MONDAY: Rain and thunderstorms, highs in the mid 80s. Wind: SW 10-15 mph, gusts up to 25 mph. 
TONIGHT: Continuing rain, lows in the mid 60s. Wind: WSW 5 mph, gusts up to 15 mph.
