A tense situation unfolded in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district after a group of Nihangs allegedly stormed a gurdwara, vandalised parts of the premises and took the manager to the roof while demanding the release of four Nihang devotees arrested in connection with a recent clash in Karnaprayag. Police said the group, armed with spears, swords, axes and kirpans, raised slogans from the rooftop, prompting the deployment of a heavy security presence. The dispute stems from a June 16 altercation in Karnaprayag involving Nihang pilgrims returning from Hemkund Sahib, in which four people were injured and four devotees were later arrested. The Uttarakhand government has ordered a probe into the incident and appealed against giving the matter a religious or communal colour. Authorities continue efforts to defuse the standoff and maintain law and order.
