The first batch of 44 pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 crossed into China through the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim, marking the official commencement of this year's pilgrimage. Authorities completed extensive logistical and medical preparations before the pilgrims embarked on the sacred journey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the commissioning ceremony of INS Agray, INS Dunagiri and INS Sanshodhak, describing the induction of the three naval platforms as a major step towards a self-reliant, secure and developed India. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the world has witnessed that no nation can become a great power without strong maritime capabilities. He underlined that development, security and prosperity are deeply linked to the seas, which continue to serve as the backbone of global trade, communications and future resource exploration. Modi also noted the significance of June 21 being observed as World Hydrography Day and highlighted the commissioning of INS Sanshodhak, India's most advanced hydrographic survey vessel. He said the ship would strengthen India's maritime mapping and research capabilities. Emphasising Bengal's historic maritime legacy, the Prime Minister said the state's connection with the sea has long linked India with the world. He added that critical minerals, deep-sea resources and future energy opportunities will increasingly shape global maritime competition and economic growth.
