The IPL off-season spotlight is currently dominated by major personnel shifts, headlined by Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav and legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. At the centre of this whirlwind is a comprehensive management and squad overhaul at Delhi Capitals, highlighted by the dramatic return of their former talisman.
With Parth Jindal’s JSW Group stepping up to steer Delhi Capitals for the next two years, the franchise has successfully orchestrated a blockbuster trade with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The agreement facilitates Pant’s highly anticipated return to Delhi — the franchise he faithfully served for nine seasons before parting ways ahead of the 2025 mega auction. In exchange, premier left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep will leave Delhi to join LSG.
Poetically, this player swap serves as a homecoming for both stars: Pant returns to the city where he built his domestic cricket legacy, while Kuldeep heads back to his home state of Uttar Pradesh. Pant, however, is unlikely to lead DC.

The primary stumbling block was Pant’s staggering, record-breaking salary of Rs 27 crore, a figure too large for any franchise to easily absorb. To push the transfer through, Pant agreed to a substantial pay cut. Kuldeep Yadav’s contract, however, will remain unchanged, ensuring he continues to earn Rs 13.25 crore under his new Lucknow banner.
For LSG, moving on from Pant was a strategic decision. The franchise’s think tank ultimately concluded that the team required a fresh leadership vision and a new tactical direction.
With JSW at the operational helm, Sourav Ganguly could be making a grand return to oversee all cricketing affairs and call the shots at DC. Ganguly’s first major move has been to recruit former India team-mate Yuvraj as head coach. Hemang Badani, who guided the team from the dugout over the past two seasons, will step down from his role.
Before the Delhi reunion was finalised, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a strong push to acquire Pant. However, negotiations quickly hit a wall. LSG set an astronomical asking price, demanding either Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine or Varun Chakravarthy in exchange for the wicketkeeper-batter. Refusing to dismantle their core of loyal, long-term players, KKR ultimately walked away from the negotiating table.
