Reliance Industries is betting on a combination of global technology partnerships and local infrastructure to strengthen India's position in artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the company's 49th Annual General Meeting, Akash Ambani said Reliance Intelligence will offer sovereign AI hosting within India, giving businesses the ability to deploy AI models while keeping data and operations under domestic control.
"Reliance Intelligence will deliver sovereign hosting within India, with full model transparency and portability that allows every enterprise to own its AI journey," Ambani said.
The announcement comes as Indian businesses increasingly look for AI solutions that meet local data and compliance requirements. Reliance believes hosting AI infrastructure within the country will help enterprises adopt the technology without relying entirely on overseas platforms.
A key part of that strategy is the company's growing partnership with Google.
Ambani said Reliance's relationship with the technology giant has evolved into a "truly AI-first collaboration." Through the partnership, hundreds of millions of Jio users now have access to Google AI Pro powered by Gemini at no additional cost.
The tie-up reflects Reliance's broader approach to AI: combining global technology with local scale. While Google contributes AI capabilities through Gemini, Reliance brings its telecom network, digital platforms and growing infrastructure footprint to reach consumers and businesses across India.
The company is simultaneously investing in its own AI backbone. Reliance Intelligence is building a large AI infrastructure facility in Jamnagar, powered by renewable energy generated from Reliance's clean-energy projects in Kutch. The first phase, with 120 megawatts of capacity, is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
Reliance says the infrastructure will support both consumer-facing AI applications and enterprise deployments. The company is also operationalising an initial fleet of NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, which will form the foundation of its AI computing platform.
Beyond infrastructure, AI is becoming increasingly embedded across the Jio ecosystem.
Ambani said Jio is already integrating AI into consumer technology to create more personalised experiences. The technology is being used to improve network performance, enhance customer service and support smarter digital services.
"AI will make our networks more efficient, our homes more intelligent, our customer service more responsive, and our platforms more useful to every Indian," he said.
Reliance also sees AI as an important growth driver for its telecom and digital businesses. The company expects future revenue growth to come from premium 5G offerings, enterprise solutions and AI-enabled services.
At the same time, Jio's expanding 5G network is expected to support the next wave of AI adoption. The company added 77 million 5G subscribers during FY26, taking its total 5G user base to more than 268 million. Ambani said data consumption is likely to rise further as AI-powered applications become more widely used.
Alongside Google, Reliance is also working with Meta to bring Llama-based AI models to Indian enterprises. However, the Google partnership remains central to Reliance's consumer AI ambitions, particularly as the company looks to bring advanced AI capabilities to millions of users through Jio's platforms.
The company is also looking beyond India. Ambani said Jio's proprietary technology stack, built for 5G, fixed wireless access and AI services, is now ready for deployment with international partners in selected markets.
