JAMESTOWN — Niagara Falls spotted Jamestown five runs in the bottom of the second inning, falling back 6-3 and beginning the long road back early.
Jamestown added another run the following inning, but a pitching change to Logan Stickler was the spark the Americans needed as they kept the Tarp Skunks off the board and clawed back to eventually take the lead in the top of the ninth inning for a 9-8 win in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action at Diethrick Park on Thursday night.
Stickler took over for starter Angel Nova-Lopez who struggled to find the strikezone, spotting the Tarp Skunks all seven runs on five hits and six walks in 3 1/3 innings of work. Stickler was near perfect once taking over the mound, giving up just one run in the bottom of the ninth as the Tarp Skunks cashed in on a Heath Fetchik double with an RBI single from Grant Moore, the only two hits they could muster against him.
Things looked bright from the start for the Tarp Skunks as they scored in the first inning and then really opened things up with a five-run second.
Singles from Jackson Enders and Branston Lindquist to start the bottom of the second signaled trouble for Niagara Falls and Nova-Lopez losing the strike zone gave the next three batters a free pass to tie the game 3-3. A two RBI double by Eric Weeks and an RBI sac fly from Blake Herman pushed Jamestown ahead 6-3.

Jamestown added one more run in the following inning and then Stickler took over and the direction of the game changed.
Niagara Falls chipped away as Jamestown stagnated, scoring two runs in the sixth, another run in the seventh and then three in the top of the ninth to finally regain the lead for the first time in seven innings.
Jamestown held a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth, but was unable to close the door despite Collin Pence getting ahead in the count against the first two batters. David Harris drove in Dominick Zangardi to tie and before the Tarp Skunks could blink, Matthew Ganschow and Harris scored to lead 9-7.
The Tarp Skunks finally figured out Stickler in the bottom of the seventh as Fetchik took him for a double to the left field wall. Moore’s single cut the deficit to 9-8, putting the pressure back on Niagara Falls, getting the tying run to second would be all the Tarp Skunks could muster in the loss.
Eric Weeks also had a double for the Tarp Skunks (11-4), hitting 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Lindquist also hit 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Moore, Herman, Nate Muncy, Tito Kiefer and Matthew Dumas drove in a run each.
Jackson Bower led the Niagara Falls (6-7) offense hitting 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs, David Harris hit 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI and Adam Weiss finished 2 for 4.
Jamestown returns to action tonight at Diethrick Park with hopes of getting back in the win column against the Niagara Ironbacks at 6:30 p.m.
