When a “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” trailer leaked on the internet in the past week, fans couldn’t see a whole lot of what was happening in the unclear, and out-of-focus footage.
An official trailer arrived online on Wednesday, showing glimpses of the various action, stories, and characters that fans can expect to see on screen in next month’s movie release.
It included full images of Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, slinging webs naturally and discovering he was struggling to control his powers and still needed to save New York City from various menaces.
The trailer also showed familiar faces such as Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. However, one character noticeably absent from the trailer seemed to be actress Sadie Sink, best known as Max from Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”
Or was she? Potential spoilers may follow in this report, so be forewarned that this could reveal who Sink is playing in the film.

Sink’s character potentially appears in several scenes in the official trailer, with the first about 56 seconds in. A dark, hooded figure is shown motioning with their hand, but the face is not visible.
However, several accounts shared an interesting GIF, including Discussing Film via @kepleravocado, that shows a brighter shot of the hooded figure, which shows part of a face, believed to be Sink’s.
However, that doesn’t necessarily indicate which character she will portray in the film, as fans are continuing to debate that.

A report from ComicBookMovie’s Mark Cassidy suggests that viewers see Bruce Banner transform into the Savage Hulk in this new trailer to go after Spider-Man, and that the one controlling him is Sink’s hooded character, who they say is “believed to be Jean Grey.”
Jean Grey is one of the founding members of the popular mutant superhero group known as the X-Men, with powers including telepathy, telekinesis, and astral projection. Based on other parts of the trailer, there are people Peter/Spider-Man encounters who also appear to be under someone else’s control.
If this is true, Sink could be in line for a major role in other Marvel films as the Jean Grey character. They’ve yet to fully introduce X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there will be members from the superhero team in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” so Sink’s character is a great teaser introduction.
In previous X-Men movies, Jean Grey/Phoenix was portrayed by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. Sink makes a great choice for the redheaded mutant superhero as she’s shown her impressive acting skills in multiple seasons of “Stranger Things” and has appeared in several Netflix “Fear Street” slasher films.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” swings into theaters on Friday, July 31.
