MUMBAI: Anime fans had plenty to cheer about as Crunchyroll turned Ani-May into a real-world celebration, taking fandom from screens to city skylines. Crunchyroll has concluded its month-long Ani-May celebrations in India with a series of fan-focused events across Mumbai and Delhi, reflecting the growing popularity of anime among young audiences in the country.
Part of the platform’s global Ani-May initiative, the campaign combined online engagement with on-ground experiences designed to bring anime enthusiasts together and deepen community participation.
In Mumbai, fans attended anime-themed gatherings featuring music, games, food and interactive activities that celebrated different facets of anime culture. Meanwhile, in Delhi, Crunchyroll staged an anime-inspired drone show that illuminated the city’s skyline, offering a visually striking finale to the month-long festivities.
The company also marked its largest-ever participation at Mumbai Comic Con, where fans were treated to live dubbing experiences, interactive installations, exclusive merchandise and the Ani-May Thread Art Wall. The activations were designed to give attendees a more immersive connection to their favourite anime titles and characters.
Beyond physical events, Crunchyroll used its social media channels throughout the month to spotlight Indian anime fans, showcasing artwork, cosplay, community stories and other fan-generated content. The initiative aimed to celebrate the creativity and enthusiasm that continue to fuel the growth of anime culture in India.
Anime has steadily evolved from a niche interest to a mainstream entertainment category among Indian youth, driven by greater access to streaming content, localised experiences and a growing fan ecosystem. Industry observers note that community-led engagement is becoming increasingly important as platforms compete to deepen audience loyalty.
With Ani-May now concluded, Crunchyroll’s latest fan engagement push highlights the platform’s focus on building stronger connections beyond streaming. As anime culture continues to gain momentum in India, experiences that bring fans together in person are becoming just as important as the stories they watch on screen.
