The platform combines BIM-based modeling, connection design and fabrication workflows for steel construction projects.
ALLPLAN has introduced SDS2 in Germany, expanding the availability of its steel detailing and fabrication software beyond North America. The software is designed for steel structural engineers, fabricators and engineering firms, and combines BIM-based modeling, connection design and fabrication workflows in a single platform.
Steel construction companies are dealing with more complex projects, tighter deadlines and higher requirements for quality and documentation. Fabrication data also needs to be delivered quickly and reliably. SDS2 uses a model-based workflow in which connections are generated and checked during modeling. The resulting 3D model can then be used for detailing, fabrication and assembly. The software can also generate fabrication deliverables and BIM data from the same model, which can help reduce manual work and errors.
One example cited by the company is the Deloitte Summit Tower project in Canada. On that project, Supermétal used SDS2 to coordinate detailing, fabrication and erection for a high-rise structure. According to Serge Neron, head of steel construction at Supermétal, the company used SDS2’s 3D modeling tools to analyze the structure and design the connections.
SDS2 combines 3D steel construction modeling, connection design and fabrication documentation in a single application. Connections are generated based on the component layout and updated as the model changes. Changes in the model are reflected in drawings, bills of materials and production data. The platform also allows multiple users to work on the same project at the same time.
Key features include:
With the introduction of SDS2, ALLPLAN is expanding its software offering for structural engineering and fabrication planning. Together with ALLPLAN, FRILO and SCIA, the software supports a workflow that connects structural design, analysis, detailing and fabrication. This allows project information to be used across different stages of the project.
Steel construction companies can use this workflow to improve planning consistency, data handling and coordination between engineering, detailing, fabrication and job-site teams.
SDS2 is now available in Germany.
