U.S. News & World Report continues to recognize the excellence Texas Tech University brings in providing a world-class education with its latest rankings.
Texas Tech rose six spots to No. 562 in the world in the 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings, released today (June 16). Texas Tech also jumped a spot among U.S. universities to No. 123 overall.
“Texas Tech’s rise in these rankings reflects the outstanding work of our faculty, staff and students as well as the impact of our teaching and research enterprise,” said President Lawrence Schovanec. “The gains we have made across multiple disciplines demonstrate our commitment to academic excellence and innovation while providing solutions to challenges that affect communities across Texas and around the world. We are proud to see Texas Tech’s reputation continue to grow on the global stage.”
Texas Tech saw significant gains in three individual subjects in the rankings. Its ranking in electrical and electronic engineering rose 76 spots to No. 495 while the ranking in environment and ecology increased 50 spots to No. 604. Texas Tech also rose in social sciences, jumping 19 spots to No. 453.
Texas Tech ranked among the top universities in Texas and the Big 12 Conference, earning a higher placement than peer institutions including Kansas State University, Oklahoma State University, Texas Christian University, the University of Alabama, the University of Arkansas, the University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University.
Among U.S. universities, Texas Tech placed in the top 50 in three categories – agricultural sciences (33), plant and animal science (41) and space science (48). Texas Tech placed in the top 100 in psychiatry/psychology (90), physics (73), electrical and electronic engineering (74), computer science (92), environment/ecology (99), engineering (85), physical chemistry (81) and chemistry (98).
The U.S. News & World Report rankings employ Clarivate, a leading global provider of transformative intelligence through enriched data, insights and analytics, to determine the top universities, a list that is then pared down to the top 2,250 schools used for rankings. It utilizes indicators such as global and regional research reputations, number of publications among the top 10% most cited, international collaboration, and more.
