As we transition into the heat of summer, Netflix is turning up the AC and delivering a much-needed breath of fresh air to its movie library. After a jam-packed May, the streaming giant is ramping things up with a heavy-hitting mix of highly anticipated Original features and an incredibly strong roster of licensed favorites dropping in the US. Whether you’re in the mood for an Oscar-winner or two, a chaotic buddy comedy, or some laugh-out-loud romance, here are our picks for the best new movies hitting Netflix this June.
As always, we’re going to split this article into two sections: first, we’ll cover the most-anticipated (and biggest) new Netflix Original movies. Then, we’ll move specifically onto licensed titles set to release in the US, but note that other regional availability will likely vary dramatically.
For the full list of new movies and new series dropping throughout June, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix.
Coming to Netflix: June 5th
If you need a good laugh and a heavy dose of star power to kick off your summer, look no further than Office Romance. Starring the intriguing pairing of Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, this new rom-com follows two fiercely competitive executives vying for the exact same major promotion. When they are forced to team up on a high-stakes corporate retreat, their intense professional rivalry gives way to an undeniable mutual attraction that could cost them both their careers.
Goldstein created the movie with Jennifer Lopez in mind, so we’ll see if their on-screen chemistry is as good as the trailer suggests thus far. Jennifer Lopez has called Netflix home for a while now, but thus far, her movies have been mostly in the action and sci-fi space, whereas this entry feels much closer to home.
Don’t forget that J.Lo will be sticking around with Netflix beyond Office Romance with The Last Mrs. Parrish, her next big project

Coming to Netflix: June 5th
Arriving just in time for the World Cup fever sweeping the globe, Mexico 86 is a brand-new sports comedy anchored by the brilliant Diego Luna, who Netflix fans will know from his incredible stint on Narcos (as well as Star Wars fans knowing him from Andor/Rogue One). The film tells the incredible underdog story of the team that managed to put together the legendary 1986 World Cup against all odds. Expect plenty of laughs, heart, and nostalgic football moments as this ragtag group pulls off one of the greatest sporting events in history. This may easily get lost in the myriad of other titles Netflix is releasing or has already released for the World Cup, but of the bunch, this sits at the top.

Coming to Netflix: June 19th
For those in the mood for a quirky, heartfelt romantic comedy, Voicemails for Isabelle boasts a charming lead duo in Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson.
The story centers on Jill, who copes with her sister’s death by leaving her voicemails chronicling her chaotic life in San Francisco. However, when the phone number is unknowingly reassigned, an elusive Austin real estate agent begins receiving her hilariously confessional messages. It sounds like a fantastic modern twist on a classic rom-com setup that promises plenty of laughs and emotional depth.

Coming to Netflix: June 24th
If you prefer your movies with a bit more grit and literary prestige, In the Hand of Dante is shaping up to be a major highlight of the month, albeit we suspect it’s going to be controversial given that it’s already leaked in full and by most accounts, is a bit of a mess.
Nevertheless, this ambitious thriller weaves two parallel narratives: in the present, a writer helps a ruthless mob boss steal Dante’s handwritten “Divine Comedy” manuscript, while simultaneously flashing back to the 14th century to follow the legendary poet himself creating his masterpiece. It’s a high-concept premise that sounds incredibly compelling.
That stacked cast? It includes Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Jason Momoa.

Coming to Netflix: June 26th
Closing out the month on the Original side is what looks to be an absolute fever dream of a buddy-comedy: Little Brother. Starring John Cena and Eric Andre, the film follows a highly successful real estate agent whose carefully curated world is completely turned upside down when his eccentric “little brother” unexpectedly reappears in his life. Given the manic, chaotic energy of Eric Andre paired with Cena’s proven deadpan comedic chops, this is practically guaranteed to be a wildly entertaining ride, especially given that Bad Trip, Andre’s 2021 comedy, remains one of my underrated gems from the Netflix library.

Coming to Netflix: June 13th
If you missed this buzzy, heartwarming musical drama during its theatrical run late last year or its recent exclusive stint on Peacock, you’re in luck. Thanks to a newly revamped Universal streaming deal, Song Sung Blue is making its highly anticipated jump to Netflix US this month.
Based on an incredible stranger-than-fiction true story, the film stars Hugh Jackman and Oscar-nominee Kate Hudson as Mike and Claire Sardina, two down-on-their-luck musicians who form a surprisingly successful Neil Diamond tribute band called “Lightning and Thunder”. Directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow), the story tracks their rise from dive bar gigs to unexpected hometown stardom, along with the emotional hardships that test their enduring love. Hudson delivers an absolute powerhouse performance here, and with a soundtrack packed full of Neil Diamond classics, this emotional crowd-pleaser is practically guaranteed to be a massive hit on streaming this summer.

Coming to Netflix: June 1st
While the entire Creed trilogy and Rocky Balboa are touching down on the first of the month, the 2015 franchise-reviver Creed is our absolute must-watch of the bunch, even though we’d highly recommend a start-to-finish marathon watch.
Michael B. Jordan (who just lent his voice to Netflix’s Swapped) shines as Adonis Johnson, the son of the late Apollo Creed, who seeks out former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to serve as his trainer and mentor. Directed by Ryan Coogler, it’s a masterful sports drama that breathed fresh life into the iconic boxing franchise and delivers an emotionally satisfying, adrenaline-fueled ride.

If you’re looking for the perfect dose of early-2000s nostalgia to kickstart your summer, look no further. The beloved (now at least, they were panned to oblivion upon their initial release) live-action Scooby-Doo is touching down on Netflix, bringing its brilliant blend of spooky camp and genuinely hilarious writing (penned by none other than James Gunn) to the platform.
The first film, which is undoubtedly the best of the two, follows a bitterly fractured Mystery Inc. perfectly cast with Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, and Linda Cardellini as Velma, who are forced to reunite when they are all individually invited to solve a mystery at the wildly popular Spring Break resort, Spooky Island.
Whether you’re revisiting it for the hundredth time or introducing it to a new generation, this cult classic remains an endlessly quotable, undeniably fun ride that never gets old and comes at a great time, given Netflix is midway through production on its own live-action series adaptationScooby Doo 2N8Rbl Coming to Netflix: June 2nd
Arriving in time for Pride Month, Bros is a sharp, hilarious, and genuinely touching romantic comedy. Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane star as two commitment-phobic gay men in New York City who stumble towards love. As they attempt to forge a genuine relationship, they must navigate the complexities of modern LGBTQ+ dating, demanding careers, and their own deeply ingrained personal insecurities. It’s a brilliant modern rom-com that deserves a massive audience on streaming.

Coming to Netflix: June 7th
Arguably, the biggest and most exciting licensed addition this month is Yorgos Lanthimos’s brilliantly bizarre Poor Things. Coming off a massive awards season run, this dark comedy-fantasy follows Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by a brilliant and unorthodox scientist. Running off with a slick, debauched lawyer, Bella embarks on a whirlwind adventure across the continents, rapidly evolving and standing steadfast in her purpose for equality and liberation. It’s a visual marvel, wonderfully weird, and a completely unforgettable watch.
As you’d expect, Emma Stone is absolutely fantastic, and while Disney is very averse to licensing their big titles on their own, we have increasingly seen Searchlight and other 20th Century titles licensed in the US – long may it continue.

Are you going to be checking out any of these movies upon their arrival on Netflix this month? Let us know in the comments below, and check out our other previews of the best new series on the way, along with roundups of the new documentaries.
