The Switch has also been updated
The Switch 2 is now officially a year into its life and since its arrival, it’s received updates on a regular basis.
The latest one, bumping the firmware up to Version 22.5.0, is now officially here. It includes some stability improvements to enhance the overall experience, as well as some language support updates. The Switch has also received an update today, including a redesign to the eShop layout and much more.

This is the first update Nintendo has released for the Switch and Switch 2 since April 2026. A major system update was also released for the Switch 2 in March of this year, which added “Handheld Mode Boost“, additional Game Chat features and much more.
Nintendo has also released a new Nintendo Music update today, adding additional “Free Roam” songs from the Mario Kart World soundtrack. This includes tracks from the Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 playlists. To listen to these tracks on Nintendo Music, you’ll need to have access to the app or a web browser, along with an active Switch Online subscription.

Welcome Dutch and Russian speakers to a more stable future!![]()
I've always wanted to fast forward and rewind my eShop videos.![]()
Wow! ACTUAL new features being added to Switch 1 in June 2026?! That wasn't on my radar for things that could happen in 2026, but still welcome QoL features all the same! 😎![]()
I wish Nintendo would do a “and here’s one more thing” at the end of their Directs, transitioning to a system update with the glorious patch notes for stability in bold. No better way to end the show in my view. Who wants Zelda OoT anyway without a stable system. A recipe for disaster if you ask me.![]()
@TensuraFan7 What do you mean “actual”? Was stability not enough for you?![]()
“The nintendo eshop color will now reflect the theme color…”
Surely this does not mean….. Nintendo wouldn’t……
Extra theme colors soon?
Tracks from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 have been added to Mario Kart World's Free Roam on the Nintendo Music app this evening!
In Russia, you don't get stability.
Stability gets you!
@Friendly sorry but it just means that if you have the theme color set to black, the eShop will also display as such, after all these years since the system's launch.
@StyrofoamCup Hahaha this is the laugh I need before bed. Thank you!![]()
just checked out the new eShop on my switch lite and it runs a whole lot better then before. night and day difference.
@zidane4028 @Friendly @TensuraFan7 Yeah, methinks this is to increase parity between the S1 and S2 eShops. Or at least, when you view the eShop on each system.
Now can we get a rewind button so I can just live in the 90s again?![]()
Russian stability with love! 💋![]()
Took them long enough to enable Basic Dark on the eShop. Thus, making it as stable to my eyes as my HOME Menu.
EDIT: Yep, now the Switch 1 eShop is not only stable, but also faster. It seems they implemented the Nintendo Store smartphone app as the actual Switch eShop UI.![]()
I’m glad they aren’t Russian out these updates, otherwise things could get unstable.![]()
@HammerGalladeBro not sure why you thought of that, it's clearly just the switch 2 eshop now. keep in mind that both were always just browser applets, so they can basically share the same website now.
plus, yes, it loads way faster. good for both the software engineers at nintendo and us.![]()
@squiddu-real I don’t have a Switch 2 and I hadn’t seen the NS2 eShop before, so my only exposure to it was the Nintendo Store app, which is from where I thought this update was taking it from.
Overall, we can agree it was a much needed update for the Switch 1 eShop, though.![]()
As a native Dutch person I can confirm that my General system stability has indeed improved![]()
Removed – trolling/baiting![]()
@SoIDecidedTo Couldve gotten this laugh 15 years ago since this is a 15 year old joke..![]()
finally the eshop on my switch lite has become fast![]()
One day we'll get themes…
One day….
Still can't believe Nintendo is sleeping on that easy money tbh. Even if it's just a simple wallpaper, with no extras like themed buttons, sound effects and music, it seems like such a no brainer.![]()
Quick someone tell @oshawottfan3203, he must be fun at parties![]()
@Grim You replied to me with another overdone joke… not a good look, my dear friend..![]()
@oshawottfan3203 oh noooooo what have I done![]()
Removed – flaming/arguing![]()
Switch console eShop seems to follow the layout of the NS2 one now. Time will tell if freezes during consecutive purchases have been eliminated.
Judging by a quick test, still no general system stability improvements to enhance the 2000+ game owner's experience.![]()
We need to be able to use screenshots as themes!!!!![]()
"Redesign" seems a bit of a stretch…![]()
FINALLY they made the wishlist tab more accessible![]()
Het is gelukt iedereen, ook wij zijn stabiel!!!![]()
Confused with eshop videos, I was doing it before this update 🤔![]()
Free performance enhancements Nintendo, give more for free! Typing in "upgrade pack" is depressing. Thank goodness for the few free upgrade packs but I'd expect no charge or at most $2-3, still think this is the most anti consumer they've been in a long time & have so many caveats to understand it's not simple anymore. Switch 1 was easy and straightforward. Hamster adding upgrade packs to everything is also a bit beneath them imo just to get 10 fps more and time attack mode![]()
Still no Polish or Thai system language? 😔 Maybe next time in a couple of months…![]()
They did a good job with the eShop rework. Inputs are a lot more responsive and the categorization's been improved to prioritise non shovelware titles. Still not super snappy, but it's usable now
Soooo this means more back compat fixes for games that Nintendo never tell us about, leaving us to search for ourselves??![]()
I'm curious, NL. Why do you always name and thumbnail these firmware update articles after specifically the Switch 2, even though both consoles were updated? I know the Switch 1 is mentioned in the subheading, but especially for an update like this where the primary subject of the update was the Switch 1 anyway, shouldn't it have a more significant place?
My guess is that mentioning Switch 2 only in the headline gets more clicks, but I'd love to know the true reason![]()
"General System Stability" is code for two things: making sure certain games don't crash on you, and the company fighting hackers for another update.![]()
I hope this means we won't have those long pauses while scrolling the switch1 eshop.
It makes using the eshop so tedious.
Nintendo is a trash company. I dont know why people still support them. Theure doing everything in their power to make sure you don't own anything they are pretty much just renting ypu a system and games. It's a joke they key cards is a scam to steal your money theyre pointless to buy a hard copy because there's no data on the cartridge. Nintendo is the biggest scam company STOP SUPPORTING THEM![]()
Wow! The eShop is now actually usable at a good pace on Switch Lite and Switch 1. It's now like the Switch 2 eShop and much much better.
I am surpised that Nintendo didn't do this ages ago as they must have been losing sales with people just saying nope, I cannot use that crazy slow online store, it was so frustrating.
Well done to the software boffins.![]()
Themes…we can only dream.
If Nintendo is worried about fast/clean UI at least give us some colour.. The world is not black and white anymore according to my TV.
We need that handheld boost shortcut to toggle it on/off in the home quick settings menu.
Glad we have rewind but it should be 5s not 10s. Lots of video players make this mistake. I never want to go back 10s if I miss the last few seconds or want to rehear a part.![]()
All I can ever think about with these updates is "I hope it doesn't brick aftermarket docks".![]()
@Friendly I've been waiting for more colors and wallpapers for over 9 years now, so I'm not going to get my hopes up. And don't even get me started on folders..
The fact that they couldn't be bothered to even add some more colors for the Switch 2 UI kind of says it all.![]()
@NintendoBlows <— Oh looky, we got us a new troll guys! Account was created just 10 hours ago..shocker. Let's report him and get this loser banned.
@NintendoBlows u do know xbox been doing that since last generation right none of there 1st part games have been on disc for 9 years
@NintendoBlows
"Theure doing everything in their power to make sure you don't own anything they are pretty much just renting ypu a system and games."
False, that's what Valve has been doing and PC players have slurped it all up.
Nintendo is still selling physical games for physical ownership.
Nintendo fans on the other hand reject game keys, which is a very good thing. PC players should have done that 20 years ago regarding Valve. Nowadays they actually don't own anything and are in fact even fine with Valve remote disabling their perfectly working systems, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Imagine Nintendo switching off all Switch Ones and forcing everyone to buy a Switch Two to continue playing. That's what Valve is doing and everyone on PC using that crap is fine with it. "Switch eShop will stop working on Switch 1, just buy a Switch 2". Imagine Nintendo actually doing that. But when it's on PC and Valve doing that, it's fine.
@JetmanUK
I wish Nintendo would reimplement the feature that marked purchased games as purchased for all accounts. That wasn’t perfect, because for give-aways you want and had to get games on other accounts, doing that was still possible anyway.
For some years now purchased games can be re-purchased by other accounts. You are not even warned about it. Just silly.
At the same time Videogames+, that great Canadian video game store, implemented exactly such a feature recently. You can now see if you purchased a game previously already. People with a huge collection of games love that.
Better yet: why not just use the system language for all stores including the Japanese one. Most games are literally the same games, the exact same releases, Nintendo could easily show the English names for these games, but they don’t. That would make navigating these stores a lot easier. And of course the opposite should also be done, Japanese players should see Japanese game titles and menus for non-Japanese stores. It would be so trivial, at least for the menus.
