A three-alarm fire at a Lebanon City bar caused major damage to multiple properties Tuesday morning, leaving apartments condemned and residents displaced, according to the fire chief.
Firefighters were called to the Downtown Lounge Bar and Restaurant in the 700 block of Cumberland Street at 9:11 a.m., where crews found flames and thick smoke pouring from the building.
The fire was upgraded to the third alarm.
According to the fire chief, the bar, which was recently sold and is under new ownership, suffered substantial smoke and water damage. Apartments on the upper floor have been condemned because of the damage.
Officials said the fire also spread to two adjoining properties.
“This is a pretty devastating day after the fire in December in the 800 block of Cumberland Street, so to have one just a half a year later is pretty devastating to all of our efforts that we’re trying to accomplish in the city of Lebanon,” Mayor Sherry Capello said.
Capello said multiple residents are displaced, though it’s unclear how many.
A state police fire marshal is at the scene investigating.
