JAKARTA – Global music streaming service platform Deezer has officially launched an artificial intelligence (AI) based song detection tool that can be used for free by the public.
This innovation is specifically designed to identify the presence of AI-engineered music material in playlists on 20 other streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and SoundCloud.
This progressive step was taken by Deezer to provide full transparency to listeners amid the flood of robot-made content in the digital music industry.
This detector tool is claimed to have an accuracy rate of more than 99 percent. The system works by scanning and recognizing the unique digital footprint left by AI music-making software.
In order to maintain the reach of the global audience, Deezer has also provided this service in 27 different languages.
For this innovation, Deezer CEO, Alexis Lanternier, emphasized that his company is fully committed to leading the movement for openness of information related to the use of AI in the digital space. Users from any platform can now track the authenticity of the songs they hear instantly.
“By detecting and labeling AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed in our footsteps, so we decided to allow everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter what streaming platform they use,” said Lanternier, quoted by NME, Monday, June 15.
Lanternier added that the majority of listeners are actually very concerned about the originality of the musical works they consume daily. However, based on the company’s internal data, the phenomenon of infiltration of robot music has occurred massively without being noticed by the world’s music connoisseurs.
“Most people want to know if AI music is recommended to them, and our data shows that almost half of users who join Deezer from other platforms have AI tracks on their playlists. We hope that our AI music detector will be an eye-opening experience for listeners around the world,” he added.
Deezer’s internal research reinforces the fact that around 43 percent of new users who migrate from other streaming services find AI-produced songs tucked away in their playlists. In addition, as many as 80 percent of consumers insist that any tracks produced by artificial intelligence be labeled as clearly as possible so as not to deceive the public.
This surge in the production of synthetic music is indeed unstoppable. Last month, Deezer revealed data that 44 percent of the total music uploaded to its platform was the result of AI creations, with a volume of around 75,000 new songs per day.
The figure represents a massive exponential jump compared to September last year’s data which was still at 28 percent, and January last year which was only around 10 percent.
Ironically, a Deezer study last November found that 97 percent of the general public couldn’t tell the difference between human-composed music and artificially intelligent music.
On the other hand, the global music industry itself seems to be starting to compromise with this technological development. Spotify and Universal Music Group recently agreed on a new licensing cooperation that allows Premium users to rearrange, make covers, and compose remixes of licensed songs by famous musicians using AI technology.
However, resistance and concerns about the dominance of AI continue to voice sharp criticism from various world figures, ranging from religious authorities who urge strict regulation for the common good, to well-known filmmakers and music producers who see this trend as degrading the essential value of pure human creativity.
The English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by the AI. So there may still be inaccuracies in translating, please always see Indonesian as our main language. (system supported by DigitalSiber.id)
