TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Pingtung County Datong Senior High School said Friday that AI-generated Chinese character errors on its 2026 graduation yearbook cover led to a last-minute sticker fix that students later discovered.
The school said the flaw damaged the yearbooks’ commemorative value and pledged to hold the printing vendor accountable under contract terms, per Liberty Times.
According to the school, content is provided and proofread by student editorial teams, while the cover is chosen by all graduates through voting. Administrators said they respect student creativity and the outcome of that process.
The vendor delivered the finished books on June 3, and staff discovered errors in the school name. Faculty immediately demanded corrections so students could receive their yearbooks before leaving campus.
The vendor rushed out stickers with the correct characters on June 4 to cover the errors, and distribution was completed the same day. Some students later removed the stickers and found the typos, fueling online criticism.
The school said the sticker solution was a stopgap and acknowledged it did not fully address the defect. It said it will seek payment deductions, penalties, and compensation from the vendor under the contract, adding it “will not be lenient” in protecting students’ rights, per UDN.
