Patrick Mahomes has signed the richest contract in NFL history. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback agreed to a two-year extension worth $504.75 million, keeping him with the franchise through 2033. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the deal crossed the half-billion-dollar mark, a first in league history. The signing was made official on Friday, June 12, and the Chiefs shared the moment publicly. What nobody expected, though, was that a three-year-old would steal the show.

How did Patrick Mahomes’ son steal the show at the contract signing?

Mahomes was joined at Arrowhead Stadium by his wife Brittany and their three children, Sterling, Golden, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III. The Chiefs posted a video of the signing ceremony, and in it, Bronze is spotted walking through the hall when he sees Taylor Swift‘s photo on the wall. He lights up immediately. “It’s Taylor!” he shouts, before eventually turning toward his father and adding, “It’s dada!”The internet, predictably, loved it. Bronze recognised Swift before he recognised the quarterback who just signed the largest contract in football history. The kid has priorities. It also adds a warm, human layer to what was otherwise a landmark business moment for the franchise.Given how intertwined the Chiefs and Taylor Swift have become since she started attending games in 2023, Bronze being a Swiftie is hardly a surprise. Swift and Travis Kelce got engaged in August 2025, and their wedding, expected at Madison Square Garden this summer, is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile events of the year. If Bronze makes the guest list, nobody will be shocked.

What does Patrick Mahomes’ $504 million extension mean for the Chiefs?

The Chiefs are calling it a “landmark deal,” and general manager Brett Veach did not hold back on what Mahomes means to the organisation. “This is a huge day for the Chiefs, Patrick, and really all of Chiefs Kingdom,” Veach said in a statement. He described Mahomes as “one of the most prolific quarterbacks to ever play the game,” adding that he “changed the culture of our building and has led us in the most successful era in our franchise’s history.“That last part is not hyperbole. Mahomes is 29 years old and has already led Kansas City to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships. By the numbers alone, the deal looks justifiable. Still, the contract comes with a notable asterisk. Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in December and is currently working his way back. He is expected to be ready for the season, and the Chiefs open on Monday Night Football against the Denver Broncos on September 14.For a franchise betting big on Mahomes through 2033, health is the only real variable. Everything else, his production, his leadership, his standing in the game, is already settled. Kansas City is not paying for potential. They are paying for a quarterback who has already delivered more than most franchises see in a generation.
