POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Pride Center is hosting the 8th annual Poughkeepsie Pride March & Festival today (Saturday) in Poughkeepsie as part of Pride Month in Dutchess County. The parade begins on Market Street, travels down Main Street, and ends at Waryas Park, where the festival is taking place.
The Poughkeepsie Pride Parade and Festival takes place on the second Saturday in June each year and has humble beginnings.
The Dutchess County Pride Center was started by five parents in Dutchess County who wanted a local LGBTQ+ organization to support their trans kids. That movement was launched with the 2019 PKGO Pride Parade & Festival, with the same parade route and festival at Waryas Park.
This year features 15 Grand Marshals, all of whom are deceased, but played significant roles in the gay community while they were alive. According to the Dutchess County Pride Center, “The fifteen individuals listed below represent the best of us. They are those who took the brave first steps when no one else would. Those who fought endlessly and tirelessly for equity and respect. Those whose names we need to remember, as our accomplishments are built on their backs.”

Parade lineup on Market Street is 11 – 11:45 a.m. The parade steps off at noon and the festival at Waryas Park is from noon to 4 pm, featuring a marriage ceremony at 3 pm.
