Iranian lawmaker Seyed Mahmoud Nabavian said on Saturday that he had publicly outlined and explained the text of a proposed agreement between Tehran and Washington during an interview with the Student News Agency.
Nabavian said he welcomed official denials of the contents he discussed and declared himself ready to debate the proposed deal publicly. He argued that the agreement would amount to a “total loss” for Iran and criticised suggestions that it should be viewed as a diplomatic success.
Israeli opposition leader and former prime minister Yair Lapid has criticised the prospect of a US-Iran agreement, arguing that it would amount to a strategic setback for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Lapid said the proposed deal would leave Iran’s ruling establishment in place, preserve its missile capabilities and allow Tehran to eventually restore its nuclear programme.
In a post on X, he wrote, “The emerging agreement does not achieve any of Israel’s war objectives. The regime survives, the missile program remains intact, and Iran will be able to rebuild its nuclear program.”
