It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Adrian Joseph Kilian of Gowanda NY. Adrian entered this world on February 26, 1939, the fourth child of Casimer and Helen Kilian of Dunkirk, NY. He was the exact middle child having three older siblings and three younger siblings. His passing occurred at home on November 29, 2024 at the age of 85.
Adrian grew up in Dunkirk and graduated from the former Cardinal Mindszenty High School. He later graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, and was employed by the United States Postal Service.
In the autumn of 1960, he began his military service with the United States Army. After his basic training, he was assigned to overseas duty and was posted to Kirch Sons outside of Frankfurt, Germany. After his honorable discharge, he returned tot the United States in 1962.
Sports played an important part in his life, both as a participant and as a spectator. He played basketball with the Dunkirk City League program and later his interest turned to golf, a sport he truly loved. He played in several local golf leagues as well as participating in golf outing out of town. His greatest love for sports was connected to the University of Norte Dame football program. You would be hard pressed to find a greater fan. For 20 years, he drove himself and a group of friends to at least one home game for the Irish at South Bend each year. Every win was triumph and every loss a disaster.
Adrian married the former Anne Elizabeth Majkowski on July 6, 1968. They were profoundly lucky, and at the time of his passing, they had 54 wonderful years together. Wonderful memories they shared included special times spent traveling with friends and family to destinations that included Hawaii, and many European capitals.
His wife Anne survives him, as well as a sister, S. Cynthia Kilian and a brother, Bernard Kilian. Also surviving him are sisters-in-law, Louise Barthold and Sally Kilian, as well as a brother-in-law, Daniel Barthold. Several nieces, a nephew, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church; 26 Erie Avenue, Gowanda, NY. Interment will be held in private.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If wished, donations may be made in Adrian’s memory to the Lakeshore Humane Society; 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY, or to a charity of one’s choice.
