Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has begun rolling out a new AI-powered photo editing feature, bringing its chatbot Grok directly into the content creation process. The update is currently available to iOS users, with Android support expected to follow soon.
The feature, announced by X’s product head Nikita Bier, introduces a built-in photo editor within the app’s post composer. Alongside basic tools like drawing and adding text, the editor allows users to make AI-driven edits using simple, natural language prompts.
Ladies and gentlemen, we're launching a brand new Photo Editor in our post composer.
It has long-overdue features like drawing & text. But we also included special add-ons that are unique to X:

• Add a blur to redact parts of the photo… pic.twitter.com/38Zaw8b5jl— Nikita Bier (@nikitabier) April 7, 2026

This means users can now ask Grok to modify images while drafting a post, for instance, placing a picture in a different setting or adjusting elements within it, without needing third-party apps. The tool also includes manual controls such as blur effects, enabling users to hide sensitive details like faces directly within the platform.
The move is part of X’s broader push to integrate AI more deeply into the user experience. Grok is already embedded across the platform, helping users interpret posts, translate content, and even respond to queries in real time.
By adding image editing to the mix, X is positioning itself closer to an all-in-one content creation platform.

However, the rollout comes with some caution. The company has faced scrutiny in recent months after Grok-generated images sparked controversy, including concerns around inappropriate and unsafe outputs.
The limited feature set and phased release suggest X is taking a more measured approach this time.
Platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini already offer similar capabilities, but X’s integration is offering the embedding these features directly into the posting workflow.
