ADAIR COUNTY, Mo. — Seniors in Adair County have less than a month left to apply for Missouri’s SB 190 property tax credit program.
County commissioners hosted an outreach event Tuesday at the NEMO Senior Services Nutritional Center to help residents complete their applications for the senior property tax freeze.
More than 700 applications have already been submitted in Adair County.
The program does not eliminate property taxes, but it allows eligible Missouri homeowners ages 62 and older to freeze the amount they pay on property taxes for their primary residence.
Presiding Commissioner Mark Shahan said the application process has become simpler since the program first launched.
“Since we started, we have modified the form a little bit, so really all you need to bring with you is your driver’s license,” Shahan said. “And if we’re in the courthouse, we can pull up all the other documents needed.”
To qualify, applicants must own and live in the home as their primary residence.
The deadline to apply is June 30.
