Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicked off on June 8, 2026. During the keynote presentation, the company unveiled new versions of its operating systems (OS) for its devices, as well as a major update to its Siri personal assistant.
Worldwide Developers Conference is a large-scale event that includes not only Apple’s product announcements, but also sessions, workshops, talks, and more. In 2026, the event will run from June 8 to June 12, 2026.
At the same time, the keynote took place on June 8. This is Tim Cook’s final WWDC as Apple’s CEO. Starting in September, he will be succeeded in the role by John Ternus, who will present the company’s tech announcements at an Apple Event, including, as expected, the foldable iPhone Fold
As a result, WWDC 2026 was more software-focused. Apple mostly rolled out updates to the “under-the-hood” side of its devices, including the long-awaited Siri AI service powered by Apple Intelligence.
According to the release, Siri AI is positioned as the core component of Apple Intelligence, an AI ecosystem spanning all of the company’s devices. Apple says the updated voice assistant can support more natural conversations with users, understands personal context, and can interact with on-screen content and third-party apps.
In addition, Siri AI has a dedicated interface for managing conversations and viewing history. The release also says the service can pull information from the internet, emails, and other user files, and carry out complex, multi-step actions.
The assistant is available from anywhere in the system. Users can activate it with the side button, swipe down from the “Dynamic Island,” or use a voice command. Thanks to the new interface, a conversation started on a mobile device can be continued on a tablet or computer.
As for the service architecture, Apple stated the following: “Siri AI uses the next generation of Apple Intelligence to bring advanced understanding and reasoning capabilities to Apple operating systems, along with powerful system-wide features.”
Recall that ahead of WWDC 2026, the press speculated that Siri AI would run on a model from OpenAI or Google. Apple signed an agreement with the former back in 2024, but the partnership proved less productive than expected
In January 2026, Apple announced a partnership with Google. The company planned to use Gemini models for the next generation of Apple Foundation Models.
The situation is also complicated by Apple’s lag in AI. The company touted AI features in Siri back in 2024, but never delivered them. Because of this, the firm even faced a lawsuit
Apple noted that the new Siri AI features are already available to developers. A beta version is expected later in 2026. At the same time, due to regulatory restrictions, Siri AI will not be available on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the EU. The service’s launch in China also remains uncertain.
In addition to Siri AI, the company unveiled new versions of its device operating systems: iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. The key change is the integration and support of AI features.
In addition, macOS 27 is said to deliver a performance boost by increasing animation speed and window opening by up to 30%. The developers also improved search and parental controls.
The Liquid Glass design has seen some changes. iOS 27 has gained smart features in Notes and Reminders, the ability to create Shortcuts commands using plain language, and new photo editing tools.
