A federal judge on Monday (June 8, 2026) struck down a $100,000 fee that U.S. President Donald Trump imposed on new H-1B visas for highly skilled foreign workers, concluding that it constituted an unlawful tax that Congress never authorised. U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston issued the ruling in a lawsuit filed by 20 Democratic state attorneys general challenging a fee Mr. Trump announced in September that dramatically raised the cost of obtaining H-1B visas.

Twenty four Indian seafarers were rescued from tanker Marivex, a ship sanctioned by the U.S. for Iran links, off the south-eastern coast of Oman on Monday (June 8, 2026), after a U.S. missile strike. The sailors sent distress messages to a Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) office-bearer that the U.S. Navy had attacked the ship’s engine room. Audio messages purported to be from the seafarers to Manoj Yadav, general secretary of FSUI, received at 2 p.m.

It also demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating that he had “presided over the betrayal of lakhs of youth who appeared for NEET and CBSE exams”
The Director General (DG) of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) arrived in Delhi on Monday to participate in the first round of the biannual DG-level talks with the Border Security Force (BSF). The talks, scheduled to continue till June 11, are taking place against the backdrop of tensions between the two border-guarding forces over allegations by Bangladesh that the BSF has been sending undocumented Bangladeshis across the border through multiple land entry points.

With over 28 lakh candidates taking the written exam for the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable (Civil Police) Direct Recruitment-2025 from Monday leading to unprecedented rush at railway platforms, bus stations and public places in several districts, Opposition parties attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over its “failure” to address the rising unemployment crisis in the State.

The one-off Test against Afghanistan was India’s first at home since 2010 without either the now-retired R. Ashwin or the rested Ravindra Jadeja. Much like Ashwin and Jadeja at their vintage best in the subcontinent, left-arm spinner Manav Suthar and off-spinner Washington Sundar dovetailed nicely to propel the host to victory by an innings and 300 runs inside three days at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium on Monday (June 8, 2026). It is India’s biggest win by an innings in Test history.
