6.1 magnitude earthquake reported off Cuba’s western coast; tremors felt in Florida – WPBF

The United States Geological Survey confirmed on Monday afternoon that a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred off the western coast of Cuba.
The earthquake occurred at 2 p.m. and was about 64.9 miles east-southeast of Minas de Matahambre, Pinar del Río, Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico.

There are reports that tremors were felt as far north as Tampa on the gulf coast along with Miami Beach and West Palm Beach on the east coast of Florida.

The National Weather Service in Miami confirmed that there is no threat for a tsunami for South Florida.
