Rio de Janeiro, June 5, 2026 – In line with its ESG agenda and in the context of World Environment Day (06/05), TIM is investing in expanding the use of clean energy. The company already produces 70% of the electricity it consumes through 136 solar, hydro, and biogas plants distributed across 23 states and the Federal District, supplying more than 20 thousand antennas.
The distributed generation strategy began in 2017, with five plants in Minas Gerais that supplied around 1,200 antennas. Since then, the initiative has gained national scale. Today, the company’s energy infrastructure has an annual output of approximately 474 gigawatt-hours, a volume equivalent to the consumption of the population of a city with around 770 thousand inhabitants, such as Uberlândia (MG) or Ribeirão Preto (SP).
Since 2021, TIM has been operating with 100% renewable energy, complementing its own generation with purchases on the free market and the acquisition of international renewable energy certificates (I-RECs). With this level of structure consolidated, the company is entering a new phase of its energy strategy, more focused on efficiency and innovation.
“We have reached a significant level of maturity, with a well-established generation base. From now on, our focus is on reducing exposure to non-renewable sources and to energy purchases on the free market, while at the same time advancing solutions that increase efficiency and control of consumption,” says Alisson de Sousa, TIM’s Executive Energy Manager.
In this context, TIM began investing in the use of artificial intelligence applied to energy management. The initiative started in 2025, with projects focused on the analysis of billing data, and is expected to expand over the coming years. The current project makes it possible to establish expected consumption patterns for the units and compare these benchmarks with the billed amounts, identifying measurement inconsistencies or failures in the equipment itself.
Another approach by the operator is the development of initiatives to expand the use of clean energy in society in general. Internally, the Energy Club offers employees differentiated conditions for migrating to the consumption of renewable sources. For consumers, the company has been expanding partnerships in this segment, such as the agreement with AXIA, which expands access to the free energy market. The goal is to act as a facilitator in the adoption of more sustainable solutions, combining potential savings, cost predictability, and the use of renewable sources.
Energy strategy drives recognition
The progress of the energy and decarbonization strategy is also reflected in the recognition by international entities. For the third consecutive year, TIM is part of CDP’s “A List” (Carbon Disclosure Project), one of the world’s most rigorous assessments of climate transparency and management. Among more than 22 thousand organizations evaluated globally, only 4% achieve the maximum score, including approximately 30 Brazilian companies.
In Brazil, TIM maintains a consolidated presence in B3 portfolios, such as the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) – where it has appeared for 18 consecutive years – and the Efficient Carbon Index (ICO2), which brings together companies with the best practices in emissions management. The operator is the telecommunications company that has been in the ISE for the longest time, reflecting the integration of the ESG agenda into its business strategy.
