The Rochester City Schools are settling a lawsuit with its teachers union over widespread payroll issues in the district.
Rochester Teachers Association President Adam Urbanski says the school board unanimously approved the agreement.
Urbanski says the district is set to completely reimburse all impacted educators for their missed paychecks plus a 10% interest fee. They’ll also receive an additional personal day.
The RTA sued the school system in October after at least 1,000 employees went months without a paycheck.
Those issues began when the district moved to the Oracle payroll system last July.
Many workers still experienced problems in January when RCSD admitted W-2s they sent out were incorrect, forcing people wait to file their tax returns.
"Confidence in the central office and the school board, the district, have substantially diminished,” said Urbanski. “There are many teachers who have resigned this year because they figured if they can’t do payroll right, what else can’t they do right?"
The district released a statement, saying: “We have reached an agreement with the Rochester Teachers’ Association and the Per Diem Substitute Teachers Unit that brings structure and resolution to payroll concerns raised during the Oracle transition period.
There’s no word exactly how much the settlement could cost the school system.
