A man was found dead inside a home after an “emergency incident” in Lino Lakes that caused two schools to be placed into lockdown on Thursday afternoon.
Several law enforcement agencies were called to the 7100 block of Snow Owl Lane — just west of Lake Drive and south of Interstate 35W — just before 12:30 p.m., a city spokesperson confirmed. Chopper 5 flew above the scene and saw police posted outside a home in the area.
As a precaution, law enforcement urged two nearby schools to be placed into “a soft lockdown.” A Centennial School District (ISD 12) spokesperson confirmed that Blue Heron Elementary School and Centennial Middle School were in lockdown.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says when law enforcement got to the scene, they contacted a person at the home and a gunshot was heard. Officers were able to get one person out of the home without injury and say no other victims were inside.
However, SWAT was called and, later in the afternoon, officers found a man’s body with an apparent gunshot wound inside the home.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is working to learn more about how the man died and what his relationship was to the other individual.
The incident remains under investigation, police say, and the sheriff’s office says it isn’t sharing any more information at this time.
The school district added that students across the district were dismissed at their regular time, although buses ran 15 to 20 minutes late.
“The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Thanks for your patience as we worked through today’s situation,” a district message to families said. Extra support for students will also be made available.
