Heavy police deployment and internet shutdown enforced in NIT area as civic authorities demolish religious structures and alleged encroachments; Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed stages protest at the site.

A major demolition drive in Haryana’s Faridabad triggered tensions on Friday after the Municipal Corporation used bulldozers to remove a Shiva temple and a mosque to clear land for the construction of an elevated road and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. Several other alleged illegal structures were also demolished during the operation.
To maintain law and order, authorities deployed heavy police personnel across the area. Internet services in the NIT region were suspended for nearly 21 hours as a precautionary measure, while Faridabad Traffic Police closed several roads and diverted traffic heading towards Gurugram.
Administrative officials said the anti-encroachment drive could continue throughout the day as part of the infrastructure development project.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed from Nuh rushed to the site after reports of the mosque’s demolition surfaced. Police personnel stopped him at a barricade, following which he briefly staged a sit-in protest near the barricading before leaving the area.
Reacting to the action, Aftab Ahmed alleged that the demolition was “destruction, not development,” and claimed that bringing down the mosque at around 2 a.m. was completely unlawful.
