Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD, Financials) shares edged lower even as the company rolled out a major update to its open-source generative AI application, GAIA.
The newest version of GAIA has tools that let anyone make AI bots using a chatbot interface. You can then turn these agents into desktop apps that work on a number of OS systems. The platform also gives you the Python code you need to make changes.
The program is made to work with Ryzen CPUs, which means that more people can use it, not only those with high-end AI chips. GAIA doesn't make money directly, but it helps AMD's hardware ecosystem and encourages more people to use its CPUs and GPUs.
Even though there was an update, AMD stock went down a little during the session. However, it is still up a lot over longer periods of time, including big gains over the past year. Compared to normal levels, trading activity was rather low.
The announcement illustrates that AMD is still working on AI, even though the market's reactions are still focused on how people feel and what they think will happen in the short term. Investors are watching to see if software projects like GAIA will create a long-term need for its processors.
