New Delhi: Singhania Buildcon Private Limited has received permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for News Plus, a Hindi news and current affairs satellite television channel.
With this, the Raipur-based group, better known for its real estate business, is set to enter the regulated television news space.
Singhania Buildcon is a Chhattisgarh-based private company whose directors include Subodh Singhania and Harshit Singhania.
The real estate group has promoted residential and commercial projects in Raipur, including Harshit Urban City and Harshit Landmark, and has positioned itself as a long-running local real estate player.
The group already has a visible digital and news footprint through Asian News and NewsPlus21. Asian News describes Subodh Singhania as chairman and refers to the Asian News and NewsPlus21 office in Raipur.
Harshit Singhania, son of Subodh Singhania, is also central to the group’s media push. His LinkedIn profile describes him as Managing Director of NewsPlus21 after his studies, indicating that the group first built and tested its news presence through digital outlets before moving into satellite broadcasting.
For a Chhattisgarh-based group, the Hindi news category offers two possible routes.
One is to build News Plus as a regional news channel with strong Chhattisgarh and central India positioning. The other is to attempt a broader Hindi news play across the Hindi-speaking market.
Industry observers said the channel is most likely to be region-focused.
With the existing NewsPlus21 digital identity, the television channel is expected to try to convert its digital local-news presence into a linear TV product.
News Plus will enter the market at a difficult time for linear news broadcasting.
Hindi news is one of the most competitive genres on Indian television. The national space is dominated by large networks with deep distribution, strong political access, established anchors and high brand recall.
Below them sits a crowded field of regional and local news channels competing for limited local ad money, political advertising, government campaigns and small-business spending.
If News Plus stays Chhattisgarh-first, it may find a clearer opening. The state has strong political news flow, local business communities, government advertising potential and a steady appetite for regional Hindi coverage.
