Student organisations in Delhi staged a protest outside the office of the Ministry of Education on Monday against alleged irregularities and scams in the conduct of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), as well as technical issues in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 evaluation system.
The police said 25 students were detained for protesting without permission. “They had not even applied for permission. The women students were released by sunset, and the rest were released later,” a police officer said.
The All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) were among the organisations that participated in the protest.
The protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over what they described as repeated irregularities in various examinations.
“If paper leaks are to be stopped, the National Testing Agency (NTA) must be dissolved entirely,” Nitish Kumar, former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, said.
In a release, the KYS stated that the NEET paper leak and irregularities in exams conducted by the NTA had raised questions about “the nexus between sections of the examination apparatus, private coaching interests, and those seeking to profit from students’ aspirations”.
“The organisation demands the immediate resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan over the continued irregularities and his refusal to ensure accountability,” said AISA.
