Funding to accelerate high-voltage motorcycle innovation; marks TDB’s first investment in India’s EV two-wheeler segment.
Raptee.HV, a Chennai-based electric motorcycle startup, has become the first EV motorcycle OEM in India to receive strategic funding from the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The funding will support Raptee.HV’s proprietary high-voltage architecture and help the company scale its presence in the USD 1 billion performance electric motorcycle category.
Founded in 2019, Raptee.HV is the only Indian startup to develop electric motorcycles using high-voltage car technology, offering enhanced performance, reliability, and access to CCS2 car-charging infrastructure. The company has built its technology ground-up over six years, with 156 patents filed and 100% of electronics developed in-house.
“This support from the Technology Development Board is a strong endorsement of Raptee.HV’s mission to redefine performance electric mobility, from India, for the world,” said Dinesh Arjun, CEO & Co-Founder, Raptee.HV. “The trust placed in us by TDB and ARAI-AMTIF strengthens our resolve to push the boundaries of performance-driven motorcycle electrification in India.”
In 2021, Raptee.HV received a ₹3.25 crore non-dilutive grant from ARAI-AMTIF, making it the only OEM to secure such support. With the latest TDB backing, Raptee.HV joins the ranks of landmark Indian innovations like the Tata Indica and Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, both previously supported by the Board.
Raptee.HV operates a 4.5-acre facility in Chennai with an annual capacity of 100,000 units and has secured 40 acres at SIPCOT, Cheyyar for future expansion. The company has raised USD 5 million in pre-Series A funding and is closing a USD 20 million Series A round.
Motorcycles account for nearly two-thirds of India’s two-wheeler market, making their electrification essential to achieving the country’s 2030 EV penetration targets. Raptee.HV advocates for leapfrog innovation over incremental upgrades, positioning itself to lead the transformation of India’s performance electric motorcycle segment.
