A driver has been charged with DWI after their car took down a utility pole in the Five Points area overnight, causing hundreds of customers to lose power.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to crash at Glenwood Avenue and Whitaker Mill Road around 1:15 a.m. on Monday.

Police said a driver was speeding on Whitaker Mill Road and driving “in an erratic manner” when the car hit a power pole, knocking out traffic lights in the area and causing about 300 Duke Energy customers to lose power. The car overturned and came to a rest on its roof.
Raleigh police charged the driver, Chelsey Floyd, 29, with DWI and reckless driving.
Floyd and a front-seat passenger were transported to WakeMed with serious injuries. Raleigh police said they are both in stable condition.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was on the scene and saw a vehicle flipped upside down with debris scattered across the road.
Duke Energy estimated the power would be restored around 12 p.m. The car has since been towed away, and crews are working to install a new pole.
At 8:30 a.m., traffic was flowing again on Glenwood Avenue, but police estimated Whitaker Mill Road may be closed until 2 p.m.
